The parish of the English Martyrs, Horley, is part of the Crawley deanery group of parishes in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. As well as the town itself, the parish includes the surrounding villages of Charlwood, Smallfield and Outwood. The present Church was built in 1961 and consecrated on June 10th that year. Perhaps its most distinctive feature are the eighteen concrete-set glass windows, comprising 10,000 peices of one inch thick glass, designed by Pierre Fourmainteaux. Fourteen of the windows represent the Stations of the Cross. The Church is usually open during the day so that the many people who pass by may use it for a quiet moment or a time for prayer in their busy lives. The parish Priest is Father Paul Jennings and his home is on the same site as the Church. As a parish family, we try to share our faith-story and the experiences that make up our daily lives, so that together we care for and support one another while at the same time being open to the life and mission of the wider Christian community in Horley. Our children have the opportunity to attend the really good Catholic schools that serve this area of the Diocese – St Francis of Assisi Primary and St Wilfrid’s Comprehensive in Crawley, and St Joseph’s Primary and St Bede’s School (a joint Anglican and Roman Catholic foundation) in Redhill.
